Micah Peterson, with Acceptance Capital Mortgage and Valet Real Estate Services in Artesia, California, recently shared some great thoughts on the By Referral Only Message Board: One of my loan officers asked me for a marketing strategy to get some “now” business and I introduced him to Ugly Yellow Signs. I gave him the exact wording for the sign, the neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) script I wrote, 25 sign blanks, and even the marker to write up the signs. I told him to do exactly as I suggested and he’d see results. He proceeded to take the sign blanks to a company to print the signs “to make them look more professional,” which increased his cost for the signs from $1.96 each to $9.96 each. He put out 25 last weekend and got ZERO calls and ZERO call-throughs. Understand what I’m saying: No one even tried to listen to his message AT ALL…no hits at all. I decided to put out the 16 remaining signs I had left at the office. My signs are UGLY and HANDWRITTEN. When I got back home I saw that I’d received eight calls and one message. I ended the weekend with 22 calls and two call-throughs. I’m now helping one of those call-throughs find a condo that’s close enough to the beach to be used as a vacation rental. PLEASE don’t put ketchup in the cake. By Referral Only provides systems and strategies that WORK, and that are TESTED and PROVEN. Don’t think about it, don’t analyze it, and for your own sake don’t try to reinvent the wheel!
