Getting Control of Their Lives
Bill Laney, with Home Asset Mortgage in La Mesa, California, shared his success story at a recent Main Event:
"When I joined the community my company had three people: my wife, my processor and me. We weren't trying to get more business – we had plenty of business. We were just trying to get control of our lives.
"I received a flyer from By Referral Only about a free workshop where I could learn to get control of my life. At first I was very skeptical because I'd been in this business for 15 years, and I thought I knew everything. The workshop was brilliant. I wish I'd gotten that flyer 15 years ago. I was very enlightened, especially when Joe Stumpf said, 'Fire clients who are problems.' I didn't know I could do that. We were spending 90 percent of our time on five percent of our clients. So we fired those problem clients and got new clients.
"Today we only work with great clients (who refer us to their friends and family). And 95 percent of my business comes from my After Unit, including After-Celebration Events.
"We've done several parties for our top-referring clients: a Hawaiian luau, a party at a bowling alley, and a party in a sky box at a San Diego Padres baseball game. We've even played volleyball tournaments at South Mission Beach in San Diego. I'd rather do that than knock on doors."
